Study of the Sacraments course
Saturday, March 21 from 9:00am-11:00am and Thursday, March 26 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
We believe, teach, and confess that in receiving the Lord’s Supper we receive the very body & blood of Christ our Lord (Matthew 26:26, 28). The Lord’s Supper is one of the chief ways in which the Lord delivers His gifts to His church for our benefit. However, the Lord’s Supper is often misunderstood and for that reason should not be received prior to careful instruction in the Gospel and Sacraments.
Fifth grade students are invited to participate in Trinity Lutheran Church’s First Communion instruction to prepare them for the reception of the Lord’s Supper. In order to take Communion as a fifth grader, each student must attend one of the two offered sessions of our Study of the Sacraments course. The course will be offered on Saturday, March 21 from 9:00am-11:00am and Thursday, March 26 from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the church Parlors.
If unable to attend either of these dates, students will have to attend the course the following year. Parents should attend the course with their child. Upon completion of the course students will be able to celebrate the Lord’s Supper for the first time on Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the 6:00pm Divine Service.
Please plan on attending this service together as a family!
What can you do in the meantime? Teach or review the basics with your child. Luther’s Small Catechism states: “As the head of the household teach them in a simple way to his household…” So teach your children and your spouse, as well as familiarize yourself with the following things:
• The Ten Commandments
• The Apostles Creed
• The Lord’s Prayer
